As we come into the cozy time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, the temperatures start to dip, the air becomes cooler and gets that lovely smell of cool leaves falling from trees. We feel the need for fuzzy socks, cozy soft things, and above all, a good book. Here is my list of the best reading accessories for book lovers. (I have included affiliate links, from which I may receive a small payment, at no cost to you.)

A good book light

I love the Hooga book light! I am sure there are lots of good ones out there but let me explain why I like this one in particular. It is chargeable, so no batteries! It has a USB connector that you can plug in to charge it. I love how flexible the neck is and that it stays in whatever position you put it in. The clip is wide enough so that it doesn’t damage the pages. Finally, and probably the best quality? It’s got a golden coloured light. I don’t know if having a brighter, “bluer”, light would make a difference to sleep, but this is definitely a soothing colour and yet does the trick of lighting up the book. I use mine ALL THE TIME!

A Good Bookmark

A pretty bookmark is a necessity for a reader who likes the heft and sensory delight of an actual book. There is something tactile and satisfying about seeing that pretty little slip of whatever tucked between the pages of a novel, showing your progress and doing its job all at once. I love this one since it basically contains the prescription for me to live my best life.

A Cozy Blanket

I don’t think I need to explain this one at all. Coziness! Blankets! Reading! I think this is the perfect blanket and I would like to get one myself. Honestly, any blanket will do, though, as long as it’s soft and cushy. And heavy. Am I the only one who likes to have a bit of weight in their blanket for optimal coziness? I have this one, but one day, when I grow up, I want the one in the picture. *sighs wistfully*.

Noise Cancelling Headphones

A good set of noise cancelling headphones can give the peace and quiet needed to become immerse into a good book. Even better? Listen to background music that transports you into the story while reading the book. Lord of the Rings anyone?

An eReader

Let me just say, and I will write a longer post on this another time, but I love my eReader. I have a Kobo Libra H20 and it has been amazing. Here’s a link to the most recent version. This is the newest Kobo, I believe, and it looks so good. Having said that, almost everyone I know has Kobo eReaders of various types and generations and everyone has been extremely happy with them. I might be a long time devotee of real books, with their pages and weight and delightful wordy scent, but having an eREader means having access to thousands of books at any given moment, and I absolutely cannot say no to that.

I also have a really cute case for my eReader. I love the “library” design for this one, which I’ll put a picture of below. I love it because books, of course, but I’ve also noticed that some of the spines have tiny little titles, there are adorable little ladders everywhere, and I’m still discovering details in the images after about 18 months of using it.

A Mug

I suppose I am no different from any other reader in that I love to curl up with a warm drink and a good book. For me, my favourite is a hot cup of strong coffee with a splash of cream in it, and for this, I like to have a BIG mug. It suits me perfectly. I don’t have to get up for a while, it cools down at the perfect pace so that it’s just warm to hold, and it’s all just so cozy.

Reading Supplies

And there it is. I am sure there are other supplies that make the reading experience even more delectable, but these are the ones that I most appreciate these days. What do you think? Are there items that you would add to this list that you couldn’t do without?
